Amadeus Lundberg
The 20-year old winner of the Tangomarkkinat song contest, now also a YLE TV show, was the first person to be announced to have received an invitation to take part. Amadeus expressed some doubts about taking part talking to Esctoday.com in August, but has since been convinced to take part. Both his father and his aunt have previously taken part in the Finnish national finals.
Amadeus Lundberg is signed to Edel/Mediamusiikki and has so far released one single.
Antti Kleemola
Antti Kleemola (b. 1972) has written songs for several artists, and has also written three musicals. He has so far released two albums and five singles. The singer-songwriter also plays the piano. Antti's record label is Poko Records.
Boys of the Band is a young and previously unknown band playing energetic melodic rock. The band members are Kimmo Blom: vocals; Pekka Rautio: guitar; Janne Antikainen: bass; Teijo Jämsä: drums. BOB is on Texicalli Records Oy.
Eläkeläiset is probably the highest profile act in this years Finnish selection. The band, whose name translates as The Pensioners, is known mostly for their very unique covers in what they call humppa (oompah) style. After 13 albums and numerous singles and EPs, this band has gathered a cult following not only in Finland but also in countries like Sweden and Germany. Many would classify Eläkeläiset as a novelty act, but as the band has been active since 1993 the joke has obviously not worn thin with the audiences yet. Eläkeläiset will release a greatest hits album Humppabingo in December. Their label is Stupido Records / Stupido Productions Oy.
Heli Kajo is a 25-year old singer-songwriter from Helsinki. She is completely unknown to the larger audience. She has studied music and plays several instruments and is also a music teacher herself. She says on her website that there has been a lot of crying, a lot of laughter, too much drinking and wondering why for every song she has written. Heli Kajo is unsigned.
Kuunkuiskaajat (Moonwhispers) is a duo consisting of two girls, who have already been singing together in world music act Värttinä. Susan Aho and Johanna Virtanen sing music accompanied by an accordion and a harmonium. Their music is described to have influences of gypsy music and Argentinian tango. Kuunkuiskaajat is signed to Magnum Music Oy.
Maria Lund (Maria Alexandra Aspasia Rantaniva née Lund-Ionitza, b. 1983 in Munich) is a musician and actress. Her mother Tamara Lund was a well-known opera singer and actress. She also took part in the Finnish Eurovision Song Contest selections in the 1960s. Maria has mostly performed jazz-inspired music, but got signed by Universal Music Finland after winning the Finnish edition of Strictly Come Dancing in 2008. Her second pop album will be released today. Maria is with Universal Music Finland.
Monday is a relatively new band playing melodic hard pop rock. The guitarist Tuomas Gary Keskinen is already previously known from reasonably well-known bands Technicolour and Negative. Other members are Salla Lehtinen in vocals, Jussi Savola in bass, Pete Eskola in keyboards and Henkka Mannio in drums The band has already released two singles and an album called 24 Hours In Pictures and have already announced some gigs in Slovakia and Czech Republic in 2010. Monday's record label is Scandal Music Company Oy.
Nina Lassander is the lead singer for the band Iris Mae, but enters the Eurovision Song Contest selections as a solo artist. Nina hails from the Ostrobothnia region and is mostly unknown to the wider audience. She has participated in some music shows on YLEs Swedish language channel FST. Nina is recording for Sugar House Publishing.
Osmo Ikonen (b. 1980) took already part last year in the Finnish Eurovision Song Contest selections by performing the main vocals on Signmarks entry Speakerbox. Osmo has worked with several acts with varying musical styles and has released one single and album so far. Osmo's label is Van Gogh Music.
The tenor Pentti Hietanen (b. 1958) celebrated 25 years as an artist last year. He has performed in operas and musicals and has recorded both classical and pop/rock. Pentti Hietanen has released 9 albums, including a 25 anniversary compilation Minun tieni 1998-2008. Pertti is representing Sony Music Entertainment Finland.
Veeti Kallio, (b. 1966) is a cobbler by trade, but is mostly know from his a cappella group Veevi and the Velvets from the late 80s. He has since performed in several theatre productions and films. He has released one solo album in 2002. Veeti's label is Universal Music Finland oy.
